The Road Less Traveled: How to Reach Wae Rebo

The adventure begins in Labuan Bajo, where you'll be greeted by your private driver and local guide. From there, a scenic drive takes you through the lush countryside of Flores to Denge Village, the gateway to Wae Rebo.

From Denge, the only way to reach the village is by foot — a 6 to 7 km trek through rainforest trails, bamboo groves, and gently rising hills. The trek takes about 2–3 hours and is guided every step of the way, ensuring both safety and cultural insight.

Discovering Wae Rebo: A Living Heritage Site

As you reach the top, the view opens to reveal seven traditional conical houses, known as Mbaru Niang, standing in a circle on a grassy plateau at 1,200 meters above sea level. It’s a scene straight out of a storybook — and completely real.

The village is home to the Manggarai people, who have preserved their way of life for generations. Here, time seems to slow down. The villagers live in harmony with nature, growing their own food, weaving traditional fabrics, and passing down stories through songs and ceremonies.

When to Go
